Restoring Sight, Transforming Lives

Providing free eye care services to underserved communities in Nigeria

About Onyx Eye-Care Foundation

Our Story

Registered with CAC number: 46241, Onyx Eye-Care Foundation was established by Dr. Gemma Oluchi Henry-Ibe to address the critical need for accessible eye care services in rural Nigeria.

In Nigeria, health insurance policies primarily benefit government employees, leaving millions without access to basic eye care. Poverty and lack of awareness lead to preventable blindness that affects quality of life and economic productivity.

Our mission is to make primary eye-care services available to rural communities, providing free eye treatments and surgeries to those who cannot afford them.

Our Outreach Programs

Geographic Coverage

We have conducted free eye care outreaches in numerous rural communities across Nigeria including:

  • Anambra State
  • Enugu State
  • Abia State
  • Imo State
  • Cross River State
  • Rivers State
  • Delta State
  • Ebonyi State

Our team travels to remote areas where eye care services are virtually non-existent, setting up temporary clinics to examine and treat patients.

Current Challenges

We currently have many patients on our waiting list with:

  • Hyper-mature bilateral cataracts
  • Advanced pterygium
  • Diabetic retinopathy
  • Other vision-threatening conditions

These patients are blind or going blind but cannot afford surgery. Our free outreach programs are their only hope to regain sight.

Urgent Need: We require more resources to clear our backlog of patients waiting for sight-restoring surgeries.
